Outdoor Hobbies
I still enjoy hunting and fishing, but I don't fish nearly as much as I did when growing up. Now, I'm into shooting and reloading. I belong to the National Rifle Association, and I feel that anyone who values their Right to keep and bare arms should also be a member. NO ONE does a better job of protecting our 2nd Ammendment rights.
Hunting
I don't get in nearly as much hunting as I'd like to. In fact I haven't done any hunting since I moved to Reno in 1988. I could just never find any places to hunt around here. Finally last year I met a couple people who gave me leads on places to hunt, but it was already late in the season and I had so many other things going on that I wasn't able to go. I'm planning on doing a lot of scouting this summer though. Nothing tastes better than fresh mourning dove!
Shooting
Even though I haven't done any hunting in a long time, I have managed to do some shooting over the years. I love the crack of a .22 rifle, but now that I'm old my ears can't handle anything bigger unless I wear ear plugs. I don't have any preference as to type of gun - military style "assault" rifles, "classic" bolt actions, pistols, revolvers - I love them all. My favorite cartridge is still the 243 Winchester for almost everything, in cases where that isn't big enough I like the 7mm Remington Magnum. In addition to shooting, I also do some reloading. For pistol and high volume rifle reloading I have a Dillon RL-550B, and I use an RCBS Rockchucker for "precision" loading.
Fishing
Besides not hunting in over 15 years, I also haven't done much fishing. I plan to change that this summer though. When I think back on why I loved to fish so much when I was a kid, and why I've lost interest in it over the years, I came to realize that the best part of fishing when I was a kid was the spending time outdoors with my dad. I also realized that I don't spend nearly enough time with my parents now, and although God has blessed them both with excellent health, I know they aren't going to live forever. So, even though I don't make New Year's resolutions, I've promissed to myself that from now on I'm going to spend time fishing with my dad, bird watching with my mom, and other things that will allow me to spend more time with them.
