The Owens River is a beautiful place. From Owens Valley Dam all the way to where it enters the LA Aquaduct there are many things to do and beautiful sights to see. Fishing is one obvious thing to do in a River, and the Owens is the only body of water in Inyo County that is open to fishing year around. Although trout are by far the most abundant fish, some sections of the Owens also offer catfish and bass. I expect that the later will be especially prevelant on the lower Owens now that its been reopened by DWP. Besides fish, the environment in and around the Owens suppoerts a large variety of wildlife, including beaver, deer, dove, ducks, quail, and others. Some of the fields along the owens offer excellent dove and quail hunting. If fishing and hunting aren't your thing, the river is still a cool place to go. During the summer you can float it on an inner tube or swim in one of several swimming holes. If you don't want to get wet, just find a nice cottonwood to relax under with a cold one.
